Phil Maneri Musician Bio
Phil Maneri is a freelance musician based in Columbus Ohio. His career spans over 4 decades; leaving a performance resume that is long and diverse. He has created many original works and projects.
Phil became known in the late 80’s early 90’s for the rock trio Drumzand Wires.
More recent works include a weekly improvised music series “Phil@Filament” that ran from 2018 until the pandemic shutdown early 2020.
During the pandemic, he created a family show live stream called “The Pandemic Cellmates” a music and comedy variety show produced during lockdown.
Post pandemic, in 2021 “Phil Maneri Presents Kaleidoscope” premiered as a monthly art series in The Vanderelli Room where an ensemble of musicians, a group of dancers, a video presentation artist, and a painting artist improvised in collaboration with each other live in real time. That residency ended in 2023 with the demise of the building , although the concept returns in other venues several times annually.
In 2023 Phil created a large stage presentation called The Alsatian Queen; a performance show about the dramatic history of Phil’s 160 year old double bass. Over 40 professional musicians, dancers, paint artists and video creators traced the bass’s history from its origins in classical music ,through jazz, rock, and hip hop. It was documented in The Alsatian Queen A Concert Film.
The recording, “Urban Elegance” was released in 2022, featuring Hip Hop Producer Storm 9000, Harpist Trista Hill, and Phil on Bass and sonic treatments.
In 2023 he released the self produced record Trista Hill Phil Maneri, “Conversations With Ghosts”, a duo with Trista Hill Harpist and Phil on Bass and Sonic Soundscapes.
With these creative projects, plus a variety of other sideman recording and live performances, Phil strives to push the boundaries of Genre and content across multiple modality collaborations.
